a little Ummon

It was the Zen teacher Ummon (862/864-949), I believe, who said approximately, "When you can't say it, it's there. When you don't say it, it's missing."

Was it also he -- I'm not sure ... I guess it doesn't matter much -- who said, "Having some understanding is the jackal's yelp. Having no understanding is the lion's roar?"

I guess everyone picks his/her own poison, but I like choking to death on Ummon.
