Afghan war turns 12

.
Yesterday, America's war in Afghanistan turned 12.

Today, analysts are warning that a NATO (read American) pullout in 2014 is likely to lead to civil war.

Even before the U.S. invasion -- which followed unsuccessful attempts by both the British and the Russians to bring Afghanistan to heel -- analysts I can't immediately dig up but distinctly remember were warning that without a invasion war plan (attack, disable enemies, rebuild), America would leave behind all the ingredients for an unstable and divisive country.

Welcome to the prediction that went unheeded.

No one in their right mind ever claimed that we came into the world with a mistake-free make-up, but it is hard not to wonder if we have to be quite that stupid.
