St. Augustine and Ta Hui

.
Imponderable and yet fun:

The man whom Christians call St. Augustine was alleged to have said, "Love God and do what you will."

Meanwhile, the Zen Buddhist teacher, Ta Hui, once wrote, approximately, "I have always taken a great vow that I would rather burn in hell for all eternity than to portray Zen as a human emotion."

Like a couple of dyed-in-the-wool Red Sox fans, I have a feeling these two men might have understood and enjoyed each other.

On the other hand, I can also imagine that each might have found the other an insufferable blowhard.
