trusting the teacher

Strange to think: I have read it and heard it any number of times in spiritual persuasions -- the student must trust (sometimes "absolutely") the teacher.

But nowhere have I read or heard that the teacher must trust ("absolutely" perhaps) the student.

Students receive the encouragement but teachers do not.  (Yes, I know -- those in teaching positions can spin this one from now until sundown.) But still ... how bizarre... and, I suspect, significantly off-kilter.

How could the one be possible without the other?
