the peace too daunting

.
There was a 7.1 earthquake off the Solomon Islands this morning. No tsunami is expected and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

It seems that there are a lot of earthquakes lately ... or am I just noticing what was happening all along? Haiti, Mexico and elsewhere.

I wonder if the doomsday crowd is oiling up its punishment and penance machine.

Without the gods, what is it in the human adventure that insists on creating them -- nice gods, nasty gods, omnipotent gods, explanatory gods, shape-up-or-ship-out gods? Those who snicker and sneer at those who create gods aren't much different ... their gods are just differently named.

Facts seem to be too much for the human heart to bear. And not just the tragedies are fodder for the gods. There is soaring delight as well.

Facts are too much, I guess -- the light too bright, the answers too obvious, the peace too daunting.

I'm not against it. Gods are a good place to begin. It's just that they are a lousy place to rest.
